The Diversified Technique is the cornerstone of modern chiropractic care and the most widely practiced adjustment method globally. As a chiropractor focused on corrective spinal care, I use this hands-on approach to restore proper joint alignment, function, and mobility—not just in the spine, but also in other joints such as shoulders, hips, and knees.
Unlike some chiropractic methods that use instruments or specialized tables, the Diversified Technique relies on my hands to deliver precise, controlled adjustments directly to the areas that need correction. This allows me to feel subtle changes in your joints and provide highly specific care tailored to your unique needs.
When I perform a Diversified adjustment, I use quick, controlled thrusts with my hands to restore proper motion to joints that aren't moving correctly. These adjustments are sometimes accompanied by an audible "pop" sound—this is simply gas being released from the joint fluid, similar to when you crack your knuckles, and is completely normal and painless.
Before any adjustment, I conduct a comprehensive evaluation to identify exactly which joints need attention. This includes checking your posture, range of motion, and performing specific tests to locate areas of restricted movement or misalignment (what chiropractors call "subluxations").
You'll be comfortably positioned on a treatment table in a way that gives me optimal access to the joint being adjusted. Your comfort and safety are always prioritized.
I'll use my hands to apply a specific, quick thrust to the joint. This high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) movement is carefully controlled to move the joint just past its typical range but within safe anatomical limits.
Most patients experience an immediate increase in mobility and often report pain relief. You may feel a sense of relaxation or improved movement in the adjusted area.
The Diversified Technique is safe and effective for most patients, from adolescents to seniors. However, I always adapt my approach based on your specific needs. For those who prefer a gentler approach or have certain conditions that require it, I also offer other techniques like the Activator Method or Flexion-Distraction.
During your consultation, we'll discuss which technique or combination of techniques will best address your specific condition and help you achieve lasting correction, not just temporary relief.
